Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is just about here and the anticipation for this game is off the charts, literally. It’s already broken records for pre-orders and it’s expected to be the biggest release of 2009.
To give you a little more of a tease of what’s to come, here’s the new must-watch launch trailer that’s been airing on TV:
I’ve played a bit of Modern Warfare 2 and while the gameplay is Call of Duty at its best, it is disappointingly missing some critical features that many modern gamers not only expect, but in some cases need to fully enjoy what they want from the game.
Along with a complete lack of campaign co-operative play that last year’s World at War included, the game also is lacking in its substitute feature: the Spec Ops mode. In this mode, you play a variety of 2-player missions, but you can only play with two players. Again, this is a fail in our eyes since World at War had 4-player Nazi Zombies and all of the other triple-A titles are utilizing 4-player co-operative mode. We need to advance with successive iterations of games, not go backwards.
We can’t for the life of us figure out why Infinity Ward would be lacking and/or intentionally not including key features in such a big AAA title, but we at least can expect solid multiplayer. We’ll have to since the solo campaign is a bit shorter so that’s all we’ll have to play after you quickly finish the campaign (by yourself only). Let’s hope the multiplayer is exponentially expanded upon since that’s the major aspect of the game going for it and it needs to surpass the first Modern Warfare and World at War big time to meet the very high expectations of the massive CoD fanbase and to justify the hype.
When Modern Warfare 2 is out, we’ll let you know our full thoughts on the game and its multiplayer.
How friggin’ excited are you for MW2 and how do you feel about the lack of local co-op features?
Stay tuned for more from Game Rant as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available November 10th.
